Pyrolytic Carbon Coating

The coating of pyrolytic carbon or pyro-graphite on the surface of the graphite substrate is obtained by chemical vapor deposition in the high temperature, high pressure atmosphere with a hydrocarbon (such as methane or acetylene).

The anisotropy is characterized by the growth layer of pyrolytic carbon parallel to the lattice layer. The optimal coating thickness of pyrolytic carbon is 20-30 um, and the graphite parts should be blunted and purified before coating.

Characteristics of pyrolytic carbon:

High density - No porosity - High anisotropy - Smooth plane

Main features:

1. High temperature antioxidant: when the temperature reaches 1600℃, the antioxidant performance is still very good.

2. High purity: obtained by chemical vapor deposition under the condition of high temperature chlorination.

3. Erosion resistance: high hardness, dense surface, fine particles.

4. Corrosion resistance: resistant to acid, alkali, salt and organic reagents.

5. The SiC surface layer is β-silicon carbide, which is face-centered cubic.
